Weird Weather – Dengue 3:00, 2017 (Ref: AS17859)

Description

Warmer weather also pleases the mosquitoes that spread Dengue fever, a sometimes fatal disease that has recorded a 30 times increase in cases in 50 years.

Up to 500 million people suffer Dengue. Getting it once is bad, but a second infection from the day-time biting mosquitoes can cause dengue hemorrhagic fever, dengue shock syndrome – and death.

We travelled to Indonesia – where Dengue Fever flourishes – to see how they are tackling it.

The methods are imaginative and very visual with an army of workers and volunteers (jumantiks) helping to prevent the outbreak of Dengue Fever in crowded conditions in one of the most populated countries in the world.
