Water Poverty 11:00, 2010 (Ref: AF10823)

Description

The shortage of water is a big problem in parts of Africa. Women – usually the person who gathers the water – can spend up to 10-hours a day walking to a from a water tap to gather water in a bucket because the water in the nearby water hole is not clean or it has dried up.

Water poverty is not just a rural problem. In the capital of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, there is a massive shortage of water with most water pipes not working and people having to purchase water at extremely high prices from unscrupulous sellers.

We went to Tanzania to film the daily grind of people who spend hours every day just gathering water.
