Description

An ex-soldier who was wounded in Chechnya, a socially prosperous teacher and two university students who want to be able to take pride in their country once again take viewers on a journey through the social landscape of Putin’s Russia. Putin, the country’s most revered contemporary leader, has the backing of 80% of the population. This report shows why most Russians are willing to accept an authoritarian, police state – the so-called Siloviki Regime – in exchange for law and order and economic stability, which for the moment is only benefiting Moscow. At demonstrations, police officers often outnumber demonstrators in the capital by three to one. Colleagues and friends of the murdered reporter Anna Politkóvskaia speak out on camera about the way Russia is moving away from democracy. Her death shook the West, but in Russia most people just looked the other way.
