From Jihad to Rehab in Saudi 8:00, 2008 (Ref: ME08633)

Description

The Saudi government says it is winning its war on terror, on all fronts – rounding up suspected terrorists with gusto.

The Interior Ministry claims the Saudi branch of al Qaeda is finished and on the junior terrorist front too, Saudi authorities claim success in a programme that has been quietly under way for the past few years.

Art therapy and religious counselling are being used to beat the extremism out of junior jihadis. We travelled to Riyadh where we gained exclusive access to film at the rehabilitation centre.

Through attending jihad rehab classes, talking with the detainees and their mentors we explored whether this programme was the new answer to the war on terror or a convenient PR exercise for the Saudi government.
