The Origin of AIDS 09:00, 2008 (Ref: AF08108)

Description

It’s the country where AIDS first appeared and it’s now the biggest killer in Burundi apart from war. But the question now being asked is whether AIDS was a bio-medical mistake created by Burundi’s past colonial masters? In the 1950’s Western scientists were attempting to wipe out polio and vaccinated more than 1 million people in Burundi with a new vaccine. This vaccine, which contained cells from chimpanzee kidney, (the animal that transmits AIDS) may have created the epidemic. And today in Burundi, scientists are testing a new vaccine there for a strain of AIDS that only appears in the West. Is this morally right?
