El Salvador’s Lost Children 34:00, 2001 (Ref: SA01803)

Description

This is the heartbreaking story of families split by the civil war in El Salvador, families who now face the emotional ordeal of tracing their loved ones.  Many years have passed since thousands of children were wrenched from their mother’s arms unaware of the fate awaiting them – the “lost children” were either given to regime sympathisers or were packed off to orphanages or to unknown families many miles from home. We focus on Jon Cortina, who set up an NGO whose work in tracking down the “lost children” is hampered by the military anxious to hide the facts.  The report includes interviews with Cortina, as well as some parents of the “lost children” and some of the children themselves.
