While the world seemed
to be taken by surprise by the recent global
economic crisis, one country was a little more
prepared than others. In the 90’s Argentina was
hailed as an economic success story. But in 2001
after a lengthy recession, its financial system
crashed. Bank accounts were frozen. Thousands of
people saw their life savings disappear. The crisis
led to unprecedented levels of unemployment. We
examine what Argentina did to pull itself out of
crisis and create jobs, and whether the measures put
in place are protecting Argentines from the current
recession.
Part of a 28 x 25-minute documentary series produced
for the BBC. These films can be bought individually
or as a series.
