Losing Afghanistan, 50 minutes, 2009 (Ref: 753)

Can the West win the war in Afghanistan? This film gains remarkable access to both sides in the most important conflict in the world today. It includes dramatic frontline footage from a Taliban attack on a remote American outpost near the border with Pakistan. It also speaks to Taliban fighters in Pakistan who cross the border to fight the Americans. Losing Afghanistan shows that instead of defeating the Taliban, NATO’s strategy is drawing neighbouring Pakistan into the West’s nightmare; the formation of a radical Islamic state with nuclear bombs in South Asia. We gained the only known interview with a Pakistan Taliban commander conducted by a Western journalist since 9/11. We also interviewed Shah Abdul Aziz, the man accused by Pakistan’s authorities of kidnapping and beheading a Polish engineer in February 2009. We then speak to the architects of the war, including Tony Blair and former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage. They argue that that the West simply cannot afford to lose Afghanistan.
