White South African
farmers are joining paramilitary training groups to
defend themselves. We all know of attacks against
Zimbabwe white farmers. Few know that more than
2,000 white farmers in South Africa have been killed
on their farms over the years since Apartheid has
ended. We focus on a husband and wife who were axed
by assailants and against all odds survived. They
are not violent people, but they have "pulled out
the guns" now. We profile their training - along
with their teenage daughter - with M16's, shot guns,
Kalashnikovs, and ambushes. On the other side of the
story, South African blacks and the government
believe these farmers have a disproportionate share
of farming land and expropriation proceedings, in
return for compensation, have begun. White farmers
say the compensation is ridiculously low. |
