Among the tens of
thousands of people who come to Delhi in their
search for a better life are young runaway boys.
This film follows the lives they make for themselves
on the streets of India’s capital. Many have to
forage among the scraps and piles of refuse to find
something that they can sell to survive. They have
no family, no education, no prospects – but they do
have each other. And they have the Butterflies Bank,
an enterprise run by children which allows them to
save some of what they earn. Money kept here can’t
be stolen from them by bigger kids, or even
exploitative adults. It aims to help children to
help themselves, to feel that they’re not alone in
the city, that there’s someone on their side. |
