Surging through Iraq 8-minutes, 2007 Ref: 580
Watch Video
This is an exclusive report on the struggle by US forces to bring security to Baghdad. It's three months since the surge began - deploying thousands of extra troops in an attempt to bring some security to the Iraqi capital. Key to the plan are US soldiers on the ground, on foot, in violent neighbourhoods. And on the front line in this new strategy - soldiers of the 82nd Airborne, based well away from the fortified green zone, in the northern district of Tunis. Our report shows their dangerous and often confusing mission on the chaotic streets of Baghdad. It also includes disturbing footage of suspected collaborators dumped in the streets and others who are collaborators “being arrested” by US troops and giving vital information to them. And the confusing times for platoon commanders who have to deal with the complaints and grievances of the local population. Some real, some fabricated.
