SPAIN:
Southern Frontier
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography, Javier Bauluz has photographed abuse all over the world. In this film he returns to tell the story of the thousands of immigrants mistreated in his own country. For 40 days and 40 nights, Javier filmed the extraordinary events taking place along the beaches of southern Spain. The result is a raw and deeply personal account of what awaits immigrants on their arrival in 'Fortress Europe'. As they run across the dunes, hiding from the police, climbing barefoot over barbed wire, the camera follows - capturing their fear. "They are arrested by police and have no help for three to four hours, they lie like dogs on the freezing ground." As his pictures show, these are the lucky ones - many appear on these beaches in a far worse state.
