He's the world's 44th
wealthiest person. Russian Viktor Vekselberg is a
self-made multi-billionaire who has recently been
making headlines by backing an attempt to take over
a large segment of the Swiss manafacturing industry
in co-operation with Austrian venture capitalists.
Vekselberg flew into Switzerland recently to attend
a concert where he was filmed signing deals in the
middle of the concert. We then followed him to
London where he watched a football match between
Argentina and Brazil at the new Arsenal football
ground. But not only football was on the agenda. In
the corporate box he wined and dined with senior
executives from BP - which has sunk seven billion
dollars into Vekselberg's oil extraction company -
and with the CEO of Swiss commodities firm Glencore,
a potential partner in Vekselberg's aluminium
business. Vekselberg led Russia's first successful
hostile takeover in 1994. |
