Much has changed in Kabul since 2001 - it is now a city of fortresses and high walls. There is no doubt that much has been achieved in Kabul in the last five years. There are now glitzy hotels and a parliament building, and schools are thriving again. But Kabul is now a city of fortresses and ever-higher walls, behind which lives a vast army of foreigners. Meanwhile, around it all, the Afghans: mostly still poor and many unemployed. And everybody here is wondering when the next bomb will detonate. In addition, the man overseeing the reconstruction of Kabul is constantly in danger of being assassinated.
