In Turkey, millions of
Kurds are discriminated against by the state. Many
travel to Istanbul in search of a better future.
They join a cosmopolitan city that now points
towards the West and Europe. Millions of Turkish and
Kurdish peasants from the eastern regions of the
country have come to Istanbul in the last 40 years.
This has created new problems for the city, but it
has also filled it with a new vitality and given it
a spectacular economic boost. |
