We have discovered that compensation cheques issued by the Pakistani government
after the earthquake that hit the country last year have bounced. More
than 73,000 people were killed by the devastating earthquake and another
three million were left homeless. But even now the suffering continues.
After losing everything, many of the victims of the quake are being denied
the compensation they were promised by the Pakistani government. We visited
one of the last refugee camps in Islamabad dealing with the aftermath
of the earthquake and found families who'd been ordered to return to their
villages against their will. We travelled north to Balakot, close to the
epicentre of last year's quake. Along the way, we met many people who
said their government compensation cheques had bounced.
