Hussein Ideed cuts an unlikely figure for this place in his smart blue shirt and well-tailored trousers. He’s come to pay his respect to his father General Ideed who died of wounds a month ago. No westerner has seen the grave before - even to be here without the protection of the dead general’s son would be extremely dangerous for us. But Hussein Ideed is as different here as a Californian upbringing and an American citizenship could make him and he’s only 31. He’s had little personal experience in the murderous politics of Somalia and this in a place where age and experience count. He thinks it’s time to change that.
