Iraq: Policing the new Iraq (British troops training Iraqi police) 10 minutes, 2004 Ref: 399
We’ve been given exclusive access to how British forces train Iraqis for their future. In 2004 the coalition forces handed-over power in Iraq and the scramble for hearts and minds is in full-swing. We follow the training programme in Basra where British forces are teaching Iraqis about policing - and it’s a difficult task. The soldiers are demonstrating basic policing procedures and emphasise that under no circumstances can torture be used – a common tool of policing in Saddam’s Iraq. We also travel up the Shat al-Arab waterway with British troops who are attempting to stop the massive trade in illegal goods and arms being imported into Iraq. We gain a unique insight into the future of law-and-order in the new Iraq.
