Most people think of Thailand as a Buddhist country – but in fact the five most southerly provinces are predominantly Muslim areas. A separatist movement has existed in the region for years and many Muslims complain of discrimination. In recent months however there’s been a resurgence of violence in Thailand’s south – culminating with the deaths of more than 100 people in a bloody shootout in a Mosque.
