This is a film not to
be missed. It’s a remarkable film from Baghdad that
paints a blunt and immediate picture of the scale of
the divide between Iraqis and their American
occupiers. It shows a side of life in Baghdad never
seen on television before. We visit two communities
– the Green Zone occupied by the Americans and Sadr
City – one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Baghdad.
The people in these communities are divided by a
brick wall, heavy security and the inability to
speak each other’s language. But they have a common
ailment, for many on both sides are traumatised by
the past year’s events. The suicide rate amongst US
soldiers is now higher than in the Vietnam War. To
help ease the Iraqis problems, the British have
imported clowns to entertain children in Sadr City –
and it seems to be helping. |
