Sudan (Darfur): The Unreported War
11 minutes, 2004
Ref: 384

It’s described as the worst war in the world and this is the first video report from Darfur by a western journalist. It’s ethnic cleansing on an horrific scale. We have an exclusive report from Sudan's civil war - which is still a largely untold emergency in which Muslim is fighting Muslim in a battle not of religion but of ethnicity. Arab against African is no doubt an oversimplification, but that is how the rebels feel, appealing to the international community with comparisons to the Holocaust. A freelance reporter has travelled into the Darfur region with one of the main Sudanese rebel groups. He has found appalling living conditions, huge numbers of deserted homes and villages, hurriedly dug graves and yet another African humanitarian crisis. He has also found evidence suggesting Sudanese government forces have deliberately destroyed villages despite knowing that they posed no threat. Hundreds of thousands of civilians have been displaced - many have headed to Chad, but many others are on the move within Sudan. The United Nations refugee agency has yet to get access to these people and says it is their number one priority in Africa right now.
