Cambodia: Fake Drugs (fake malaria drugs)

Malaria is one of the world’s biggest killers – causing the deaths of at least one million people a year. Research is going on all the time to find a cure or new treatments for the disease. Indeed British scientists are planning to conduct human trials later this year on a new malaria vaccine. One drug developed to treat malaria is derived from a Chinese herb called artemisin. Although used by the Chinese for many years, its recent commercial development was hailed as the next great weapon in the fight against the mosquito borne disease. That was welcome news in impoverished Cambodia, where malaria is endemic.
