Malawi: To Live or Die
9 minutes, 2004
Ref: 376

Imagine being able to save just one member of your family and having to choose which one it would be it's a bit like Schindler's List. In AIDS-stricken Africa that's a real choice facing thousands of families. In Malawi, one million people are HIV positive. Three years ago the United States and European Union promised billions to pay for AIDS drugs - but Malawi has seen only enough money to treat three thousand people. And as Zimbabwean journalist Farai Sevenzo reports, that means many agonising choices as to who will make it on to the treatment list and who will be left to die.
