Sierra Leone: What Cost Justice? 8 minutes, 2003 Ref: 364
For over a decade civil war tore Sierra Leone apart, leaving hundred of thousands of its population either dead or mutilated. Last year a fragile peace was installed and a UN-backed war crimes court was established. It's supposed to bring the war criminals to justice, so that the country can begin the reconciliation process. But it's expensive and not everyone seems to accept its authority. We went to Sierra Leone and spoke with the chief prosecutor at the court, government soldiers and civilians - and asked if high ideals should be the policy in a country that is so desperately poor?
