Iraq: Policing Baghdad (graduation day for police in Bagdhad)
13 minutes, 2005
Ref: 362

We follow some Baghdad police officers on "training day" - joining them as they graduate from their U.S. course, patrol Baghdad streets, and bury their dead. Every week in Baghdad, there are more than 100 violent deaths - 20 times more than during the reign of Saddam Hussein. To try to stem the bloodbath, U.S. forces have been retraining Baghdad's police officers - trying to instil an American sense of justice. But it’s an uphill battle. There are clashes of culture and moral codes. On top of that, local Iraqi police are often the victims of the violence - sometimes caught in the middle of gunfights between criminals and edgy U.S. soldiers.
