UK: Art for a Day (borrowing a masterpiece for a day) 5 minutes, 2004 Ref: 349
A fantastic story of two brothers who live in London who won the chance to look after a famous 20-million dollar Canaletto painting for a day. But there was a problem, they didn't have enough wall space, other than in their kitchen, to hang the 2.2 by 1.5 metres painting. So in the kitchen it was hung and they weren’t able to eat or boil a kettle all day. Canaletto’s masterpiece “Regatta on the Grand Canal” was delivered to the brothers small flat in north London under extremely tight security. They then broke open the champagne to celebrate the occasion in which the painting dominated the scene. The loan of the painting was part of the British Art Fund’s attempts to create wider interest in art in the UK.
