Argentina: Four Faces of a Bottomless Country

Argentina: Four Faces of a Bottomless Country
50 minutes, 2002
Ref: 257

This documentary shows four people's daily lives in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, following the country's economic collapse. The main victims of the economic crisis have been the growing number of middle-class who have been made redundant and the poor. In desperation, many have become street scavengers - literally selling garbage. We meet four of these people - a man laid off from a large corporation; a retired man who is fighting for decent pensions; a woman with professional training who covers her basic necessities thanks to the exchange of goods and services without the use of money; and a Peruvian immigrant - a street musician - whom the crisis forced to immigrate once again, this time to the United States.
