Nepal: Mountain Guerrillas 9 minutes, 2002 Ref: 248
For the past six years Maoist rebels have been waging a guerrilla war to overthrow Nepal’s monarchy. And now the government has launched a major offensive. Nearly 3,000 people have been killed in the conflict. Last November, peace talks with the Maoists broke down and the army joined the police and a special armed constabulary in battling the rebels. Very little is known about the conflict because of the suspension of freedom of the press under a state of emergency. We obtained rare footage of the rebels and looked at the effects of the war on the Nepalese people.
