India: The Organ Trade 12 minutes, 2000 Ref: 141
For years, India has been known as a great organ bazaar to become one of the largest centres for kidney transplants in the world, offering low costs and almost immediate availability. The poor and destitute often willingly sell their kidneys to pay for a daughter's dowry or to feed their families. Sometimes they are conned into giving up their kidneys for very little sums of money.
