Singapore: Children Wanted!

Singapore: Children Wanted!
9 minutes, 2001
Ref: 128

In a society where the educated increasingly choose long-term wealth over children the Singapore government has launched a campaign to encourage big families. Part of the reason for the urgent call is that the fertility rate among Singaporean women has dropped to 1.5 children per woman of child bearing age - way below the 2.1 required to maintain the population. To reverse that trend, the government said it would give cash bonuses to parents who have more than one child.
