Burma : The Last Opposition 21 minutes, 2000 Ref: 120
In Burma, a new challenge to the nation's military regime is gathering strength. Buddhist monks are now speaking out against the brutal repression within their country. For the first time since Burma's 1988 uprising in which 3,000 people were killed, the monks are asking for greater openness, dialogue and democracy. These renewed stirrings of the democratic movement are seen as highly significant in Burma - with the influential religious community now becoming a direct threat to the authority of the nation's military. This report was filmed under severe restrictions and in the interest of people's safety, every effort has been made to conceal the identities of those in danger of arrest.
