Congo : Depths of Darkness 22 minutes, 2001 Ref: 100
The humanitarian situation in Congo is the worst in the world. Aid agencies say it has led to appalling levels of hunger, disease, death and to countless abuses of human rights. More than two million people are displaced, most in the east. Women and children have borne the brunt of suffering with large numbers of children also used as fighters. Added to this neighbouring countries are trying to cash in on Congo's massive mineral wealth. This visually powerful report looks at the situation in eastern Congo.
