Saudi exile Osama Bin Laden, is in Western eyes, the world's most wanted man. Yet in Pakistan he is a hero, something outsiders perhaps find impossible to understand. His rise to most wanted international terrorist was not an overnight sensation. In the early 1980s, Bin Laden, joined the ranks of the American-backed mujahadeen, the "holy warriors" to fight Soviet troops with an estimated $6 billion in American weapons. When the fighting ended, Bin Laden emerged as the leader of an organisation of battle-hardened veterans and religious fundamentalists crusading to oppose non-Islamic governments with violence. Today he's suspected of financing global terrorism from his base in Afghanistan. The U.S. Government is offering a reward of up to $5 million for information leading directly to the arrest or conviction of Osama Bin Laden.
