Bulgaria: Gypsy Tales 8 minutes, 2000 Ref: 50
This is a story of hope & optimism. For centuries Gypsies, or Roma as they're more commonly known, have been subjected to derision and discrimination, living outside mainstream society in Europe. But in the Bulgarian town of Vidin, one woman is trying to end the isolation, by having children from her community bussed to state schools. Vidin has an area reserved strictly for Gypsies. We visited the Roma quarter the day before school started and found that the journey toward integration will be a long, tough ride.
