USA: Kennewick Man
12 minutes, 1999
Ref: 22

Never has the bones of a 10,000-year-old man caused so much controversy. In America, "Kennewick Man" has become the source of conflict between scientists and the American Indian tribe where the bones were found. The reason for the controversy is that scientists say he looks so different from modern native people giving rise to the theory that American Indians were not the first inhabitants of America. This has infuriated the Indians. But under American law, any ancient skeletons that are found belong to the local Indian tribe that used to occupy the land and this is making it difficult for scientists to examine the bones. So, is Kennewick Man evidence of multiple migrations or an example of rapid evolution?
